About Ichiyo

The Ichiyo School of Ikebana is a leader in Ikebana International, an organization whose motto is "Friendship Through Flowers". Ikebana International provides publication of current trends in the Japanese floral art, as well as networking and educational opportunities for its members.

At its heart, Ikebana teaches the arrangment of a few fresh flowers and branches in a beautiful container. Beyond this simple concept, the Ichiyo School of Ikebana teaches students how to bring their own personal expression into the relationship between the plant materials, the container and the space around them.

The Ichiyo School is a contemporary school of Ikebana founded in 1937 by sister and brother Ichiyo and Meikof Kasuya. The Ichiyo School has become very popular as it is well suited to contemporary expression in modern spaces. Its well organized guided curriculum with excellent textbooks and teachers worldwide have also added to its popularity.

Akihiro Kasuya, the current Iemoto, is the third Headmaster of the Ichiyo School. He became the Iemoto as the third son of founder Meikof Kasuya in 1983. Mr. Kasuya gives demonstrations, exhibitions, workshops and lessons in Japan as well as internationally.
